ABOUT THE DESIGNER
THE DESIGNER: Founded by Brenda Ekama Efem, out of a deep love for sewing and a passion for infusing art in clothing. My love for sewing goes back as far as I can remember. I have always spent—and still spend—countless hours putting things together or altering clothes to ensure they look and fit just right.
EKAMA, being my middle name, reflects a deeply personal connection to the brand.
As kids, my younger sister and I would use leftover fabrics from our mother’s fashion house to make stuffed dolls and design dresses for them.
By the age of 13, I had discovered my passion for sewing and began upcycling dresses my mum either bought or made for me. Some I’d ruin (most of them!), but with others, I’d catch a lucky break. I also started designing and sewing for my friends during this time.
Coming from three generations of dressmakers and having sisters who also sew, it was always a challenge to get help when I was stuck, as everyone was busy cutting or sewing something. My mum, on the other hand, was juggling work, business, and school, and barely had the time—or interest—for our “petty” sewing projects. As a result, we were all forced to figure things out on our own.
That experience became the foundation of my self-taught journey to becoming a fashion designer, fueled by a determination to create timeless and versatile garments.
